Thunder bottled

OVFL: One week after posting their own defensive shutout the varsity Toronto Thunder were held scoreless by a stingy Kingston Grenadiers team, falling 18-0.

Playing at George Vanier Secondary last Saturday the varsity Thunder team was held without a point against a Kingston Grenadiers team that has yet to allow a single point in two games this season. The team was unable to get much of anything going offensively, accounting for a mere 74 yards of total offense in the game.

Thunder pivot Brett Watson was only able to complete five of 16 passes for 34 yards and an interception in a forgettable outing. On the ground Ryan Meagher had 25 yards on only six carries with 23 of those yards coming on one run.

Defensively the Thunder were more effective, holding Kingston to 182 yards of offense and picking off Grenadiers quarterback Dylan Bell three times. Rowan Turner had a good game for the Thunder, accounting for six tackles (4 assisted, 2 solo) and a sack, Antoine Lyte-Myers posted six tackles (3 assisted, 3 solo) and a forced fumble, while Matthew Vieira had five tackles (3 assisted, 2 solo) and a sack.

Coach Thomas and his varsity Thunder team will look to regroup over a bye week before hosting the Newmarket Bucs at Birchmount StadiumΒ on the 15th at 2pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
