Thunderbirds get clawed

OFC: Sturgeons Improve to 2-0

It may only be two weeks into the OFC regular season, but there are only three teams with two wins in the Junior Varsity division.

The Sarnia Sturgeons improved to 2-0 yesterday after defeating the Guelph Bears 21-15. The Sturgeons hope to improve on their 2-0 road record as they take on the Hamilton Hurricanes next Saturday on the road. The Sturgeons first home game is not until June 23rd when they host the Burlington Stampedes.  The other two 2-0 teams in the Junior Varsity division are the North Halton Crimson Tide and the Peterborough Wolverines, and the Sturgeons do not face either team in the regular season.

The Forest City Thunderbirds Junior Varsity team enjoyed a bye week this weekend but they are preparing for their home opener next Saturday against the Brantford Bison who improved to 1-1 with a convincing 42-12 victory over the Chatham Kent Cougars.

In the Senior Varsity division the Forest City Thunderbirds, are looking forward to their home opener next week after getting clawed 53-10 by the Guelph Bears this week.  The 1-1 Thunderbirds look to avenge their loss with a home win against the 0-2 Brantford Bison who have scored only seven points all season. The Bison however are looking to get into the win column after two large losses.

The good news for all teams in the OFC is that the season is only two weeks in and there is lots of room for improvement. The OFC season is eight weeks long and that means lots of moment in the standing could still happen.  But after two weeks there has been some excellent football played, and with six weeks remaining in the regular season there should be more on the way.
