Thunderbirds taken out by the Bears

OFC: Varsity Bears win first game

The Senior Bears came together as a team this weekend and won their first game in the OFC against the Forest City Thunderbirds. The Bears took an early lead in week 2 and held that lead until the end of the 4th quarter. Dominating on both sides of the ball, the Bears were able to stick to their game plan and walk away with a decisive 53-10 victory.

The Bears had an explosive offensive outing this weekend and put up nearly 600 yards. With 324 yards rushing and another 253 in the air, the Bears showcased talent in every position. The Bears had depth in their running game with 6 different ball carriers getting touches this weekend.

Running back #33, Lucas DiPieri had 11 carries, 128 yards rushing and a touchdown in this week’s pivotal victory. Lucas was not alone this weekend in the backfield. The Bears had two other key players rushing from the backfield this weekend. Ryan Finoro had 7 carries for 51 yards while Roger Kinga added another 81 yards on 11 carries.

Quarterback Job Reinhart stood tall for the Bears this weekend and added over 250 yards passing and 3 touchdowns completions. He targeted eight different receivers on Saturday, spreading the ball around to everyone on the field. All three touchdowns were thrown to different receivers against the Thunderbirds defense. Breadon Gorgi, Jeremy Kennedy and Aiden Fraser all hauled in touchdown passes from their quarterback.

Coach Jeremy Macleod tells CFC that β€œour offense was powerful in all aspects of the game.” Β The Bears were able to use a wide array of running backs and receivers, continually mixing things up, making it difficult for the opposing defense.

The defense and special teams complimented the strong offensive performance in week two. They were successful in stopping the Thunderbirds from putting up points this week. Defensive back Nick Parisotto lead the team with 7 solo tackles and 1 unassisted tackle. The defense played well together showcasing their strengths and talents.

β€œThe defense impressed me with their speed and aggression this week. This group of men will be very hard to stop if they continue to play to their potential” Coach Jeremy boasts. The head coach adapts his game plan each week to the competition and was successful this week in determining his player’s strengths and the opposition’s weaknesses.

On special teams this week, the Bears had a long 65 yard punt return touchdown by Jeremy Kennedy.

β€œSpecial teams were much better this week then last. After making some minor adjustment we able to control the field position this week” Macleod claims.

The Bears look to stick to their game plan again next week as they are pitted against the Chatham Cougars in week 3. Coach Macleod is looking for his players to bring the same intensity next week and has the faith that they will continue to be successful in the future. β€œI am very proud of the way the boys played this weekend and if they continue to grow as a team, they will be very exciting to watch.”
