Tough loss

OFC: Jr. Argos can’t tame Stallions

Week three was not kind to the Toronto Jr. Argonauts as they were handed their first loss of the season. The Huronia Stallions came into Toronto and dominated with a final score of 41-7.

“It was a tough loss for sure”, Says Jr. Argo defensive coordinator Chris Smith. “We could not win the battle of field position all game and it’s tough to keep points off the board when they have a short field most of the game.”

With the loss Toronto drops down to tenth place. With the season almost at the half way mark, the Jr. Argos will need to get back to winning in order to make their way up the standings. There are six teams with the same record as the Jr. Argos, as well as a three way tie for first place.

Huronia has been a force to be reckoned with all season and this game was no different. There are three Stallions in the top ten among scoring leaders in the OFC. John Shields and Daniel Vandervoort occupy the first and second spots, respectively.

In spite of the loss, Smith was happy with the effort exuded by his defense. According to Smith there is an “unfortunate reality of high school kids who are very concerned with exams in June. This contributed to a lot of mental mistakes caused by having to miss practice. Moving forward this should be less of an issue because of the school year coming to an end.”

The Jr. Argos will start a two week road trip this weekend as they head up to Sudbury to face off against the Gladiators. The Gladiators are also 2-1 and are currently seated in eighth place. The game will start at 4:00 PM on Saturday.

Week four will be a make or break week as we start to see teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
