Triumphant coaching return

OVFL:  Ravens Trounce Thunder

One week after suffering their first loss of the season, the Essex Ravens responded with an impressive performance to blow out the Toronto Thunder 67-12.

The Ravens used their vaunted rushing attack to run all over the Thunder. Running backs Cody McCann, Eli Fera, Khaliel James and Mikey Filipic were unstoppable. While Cody McCann had only four carries, those carries amounted to 59 yards and three  touchdowns. Eli Fera had touchdown runs of 41 and 51 yards that were part of his eight carries and 181 rushing yard performance on the day. Khaliel James added nine carries for 89 rushing yards and scored a touchdown while Mikey Filipic chipped in with seven carries for 89 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The Ravens came out of the gates quickly as they took a 16-0 lead within the  first 11 minutes of the game, but were only able to score once more before half.  The team led 23-0 at halftime. Numerous turnovers and mental mistakes limited the Ravens offensive production in the first half.

The second half was a completely different story as the Ravens would score early and often. Ultimately, the team scored 44 points in the second half.

This week also marked the return of head coach Glen Mills to the Ravens sideline. Mills had temporarily stepped down due to family reasons.

The Ravens will now play London Jr Mustangs on Saturday July 6th. Kickoff is at 7pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
