Two Teams 2-0 after Second Week of Play

Pinehouse Lakers prepare before a cold and wet game

With the completion of the second week of northern football, two teams remain with an unbeaten record, while Seth Sanderson continues to lead scoring amongst all players.

On Wednesday, September 12 the Pinehouse Lakers hosted the Beauval Voyageurs on a very cold and rainy day. The field was saturated with several inches of water accumulating on the field. Despite the circumstances, the 2017 leading scorer, Seth Sanderson scored six touchdowns to lead the home team to a 42-20 victory. Sanderson transferred from Cumberland House in the offseason and is the current scoring leader in northern football with his new team who are unbeaten this season.

Also on September 12, the Creighton Kodiaks played the La Loche Lakers under the lights at the Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert. The Kodiaks dominated play defeating the Lakers by a score of 72-0. The Kodiaks record improves to 1-1 for the season. Scoring statistics are pending submission.

On Thursday, September 13 the Sandy Bay T-Wolves were sporting new visiting jerseys for the their game against Cumberland House. Both teams were unbeaten in their first game so an unbeaten record was on the line. The game was a nail biter for the hometown Cumberland fans who watched the game go back and forth, tied at the end of the first and third quarters. Two touchdowns by Keith Fiddler led the Islanders to a 34-28 victory. Cory Spencer scored three touchdowns for the Sandy Bay T- Wolves.

On Friday, September 14, in 9-aside action, the La Ronge Churchill Chargers travelled to Tisdale to take on the Tornadoes for a Friday Night Lights game. The Chargers led at halftime but some injuries made things difficult as the Tornados rallied for a 33-22 victory. Scoring statistics are pending submission.

Looking ahead for the third week of play, Beauval will travel to La Loche on Tuesday. On Thursday, a double header of football will see Cumberland in Creighton and Sandy Bay will be in Pinehouse. In 9-aside action on Friday, Churchill will host Nipawin in La Ronge.
