Undefeated streak ends

OVFL Varsity: Ā Undefeated no more: Ravens Blank Mustangs

In a game that would decide first place in the Adams Conference, the Essex Ravens and London Jr. Mustangs took the field in an epic classic.

The only thing that stood in the way of these two teams was the torrential downpour that started shortly after the opening kickoff. Ā The downpour did not let up throughout the entire game.

When it all was said and done, the Ravens who would stand tall and end the Mustangs undefeated streak with a 16-0 shutout victory.

It took a couple of series before either team was able to get anything going. The Ravens would take the lead on punt through the end zone and held onto a 1-0 lead for most of the first quarter. Later in the quarter, Ravens running back Eli Fera would turn in an explosive, yet impressive 42 yard touchdown run to increase the team’s lead to 8-0.

With both teams playing stout defensively, it remained 8-0 until Khaliel James took a handoff, and exploded up field for a 40 yard touchdown run giving the Ravens a 15-0 lead, to the shock and dismay of the Mustangs.

The second half was a defensive showcase, as the Ravens would only muster a single point to increase their lead 16-0, Ā shutting out the Mustangs along the way.

Offensively, the Ravens rushing attack was led by Fera who had 25 carries for 139 rushing yards. Ā Khaliel James carried the ball five times for 66 yards while Cody McCann carried the ball 13 times for 55 yards.

The Ravens defense stymied the Mustangs offense all day long, only allowing 104 total yards.

The Ravens will play the Hamilton Ironmen on Saturday July 13th. Kickoff is at 8:00pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
