UTTLEY: How to effectively game plan as a Special Teams Coordinator

Seldom, if ever, does the head coach give the Special Teams coordinator enough time to effectively coach up and implement the game plan on Special Teams (specials). Most coaches I know, give Specials a lot of lip service, talk about how it’s one third of the game, talk about how, in the Canadian game, it’s just as important as offence or defence, but only give them one quarter of the film time that the other two get. Most practices that I’ve experienced, run into a two to two and a half hour range, yet there is only 15-25 minutes max of Special Teams periods in that whole practice block.

So to maximize the time that you are allotted, here are some suggestions to game plan and prep your Specials on a weekly basis.
