Varsity and JV Stallions Triumph Over Quinte; Bantams Fall to Peterborough

VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Varsity team dominated from start to finish in a 48-0 triumph over the Quinte Skyhawks. Veteran quarterback Justin Winn expertly directed a no-huddle attack that caught the Skyhawks’ defence off-guard. Winn completed seven of thirteen passes with three passing touchdowns to receivers Christian Maciag, Noah Jacka, and Thomas Perri. Winn also scored a rushing touchdown on a nifty cutback move. The offensive line had a dominant performance as the Stallions rushed for over 160 yards. On special teams, Brayden Harkness had an excellent performance punting, Julian DiSabatino had several long punt returns, and Nate Willems had an impressive open field tackle on kickoff coverage. Cornerback Jordan Travis led the defense for the Stallions with two interceptions and Owen Macleod had an excellent game stopping the run at the linebacker position. The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 6pm against the Scarborough Thunder at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst. The game should be a great matchup because the Thunder are also 1-0 on the season on the strength of a 20-9 win over Cornwall and defeated the Stallions 7-0 in last year’s playoffs. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity games will be broadcast locally by Rogers TV.

JUNIOR VARSITY

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team started the season on the right foot with a well-played 24-17 victory. The Stallions sprinted out to a 21-0 lead and withstood a late Quinte rally to hold onto the win. The game flow was similar to last season when Quinte staged a late fourth quarter rally to steal the win. Quarterback William Howard had a strong opening JV performance after moving up from Bantam and completed an impressive touchdown pass to receiver Payton Plesh. Plesh and fellow receiver Mackenzie Jackson had strong games. The running game delivered with both fullback Marcus Tenney and tailback Rio Campo gaining big yardage. Campo is also the team’s place kicker and nailed all his convert attempts and a key field goal. Tenney hit pay dirt twice with two hard fought rushing touchdowns. On defence, Cole Rhines had an excellent game at the defensive tackle position and defensive backs Ty Racine and Scott Labolt had key interceptions. Labolt’s interception was a beautiful read on a double move that iced the game for the Stallions. The Stallions next game is this Saturday at 2pm against the Scarborough Thunder at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst.

BANTAM The Huronia Stallions Bantam team fell to 0-1 on the season with a 38-0 loss to the Peterborough Wolverines. The Stallions will face another tough test this weekend against the 1-0 Oshawa Hawkeyes. The Stallions will host the matchup this Sunday at 1pm at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst.
