Varsity Ravens handle Warriors

The Mississauga Warriors split this past weekend’s games against the Essex Ravens Varsity and Junior Varsity squads.

The Varsity Warriors lost their first game of the season against a good Ravens team 35-21.  Once again the Varsity Warriors were plagued by turnovers.  The Warriors had 5 turnovers, with three leading directly to Ravens scores.  For many players moving up from last year’s junior varsity championship team, it was their first loss in almost 2 years.

On defense, Jevon Wisdom had a great game with 9 solo tackles and 2 tackle assists and Corey Williams had a fumble recovery that lead to a Warrior TD.  On offense, both Jahvari Bennet and John McEachron had rushing touchdowns, with Timmy Nicholas catching a TD pass from Nate Hobbs.

The Junior Varsity squad won their fourth straight game of the season and twenty-second straight since their last loss, all the way back in 2011.  The Junior Varsity Warriors won a nail biter against the Essex Ravens 28-22, scoring a touchdown to take the final lead in the game with only 12 seconds remaining.

Leading the Warrior offence was QB Kevin John, who had his best game of the season completing 24 of 34 passes for 356 passing yards and adding another 44 yards on the ground.  The Warriors leading receiver for the game was John’s high school teammate Shakur Wray who had 5 receptions for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Levondre Jordon also racked up 7 receptions for 109 yards.

Lucas Hodgson lead the Warrior defense with 5 solo tackles and 13 tackle assists. Jodhan Justinkyle had 3 solo tackles and 10 tackle assists.

The Warriors look forward to their upcoming game this Saturday, June 22 against their Peel rivals the Brampton Bulldogs.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
