Varsity Steinbach Sabres improved to 1-1 on the 2018 season with a 44-0 win over St. Paul’s 2 Crusaders.
The Sabres jumped out to a 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter and never looked back. Led by a stellar defensive effort forcing 5 turnovers and controlling field position the offense was able to capitalize with majors. Alexander Turner had a few tackles and 1 interception, Thomas Peters had 2 sacks and 4 tackles, Reece Knelsen had a forced fumble and 1 sack, Payton Falked tallied 2 tackles,1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery, Matt Huzel had 3 tackles and 1 sack.
The offense was led by Sawyer Thiessen who completed 12 passes on 21 attempts for 277 yards, 1 TD and 1 Int. He also added 3 carries for 20 yards and 3 rushing TDs. Issac Dokken carried 15 times for 119 yards and 2 TDs and added 1 catch for a 45 yard TD. Tyson Bennett added 3 catches for 69 yards. Payton Falk had 3 catches for 58 yards and added 7 carries for 82 yards. As you can see the Offense Line had an outstanding game controlling the line of scrimmage.
The Varsity Sabres will travel to Sturgeon Heights next week Friday for a 5 pm tilt vs the Huskies.
