VARSITY
The Huronia Stallions Varsity team decimated the 3-1-1 Gladiators with a commanding 45-1 victory. The win improved the Stallions to a 4-2 record on the season. The Stallions offence had a fantastic day as a unit with 301 total rushing yards. Parker Robson anchored the offensive line which opened rushing lanes all day and kept quarterback Adam Zussino protected from the Sudbury pass rush. John Shields had a spectacular game with 16 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Jake Allen blocked extremely well for Shields and also made the most of his 5 carries by putting up 75 yards and a touchdown run. Zussino added 80 more rush yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. While the rushing game was the steak, it was the special teams that provided the sizzle in the form of two big plays. The first was Jayden Kelly’s spectacular 55 yard punt return touchdown. The second was a classic Stallions trick play that resulted in Jesse Alves’ 20 yard touchdown pass to Dylan Beck on a fake field goal. The Stallions defence did not yield any points and was aided by Max Malo making a clutch open field tackle for the second week in a row. Malo sprinted across the field to tackle a receiver at the ten yard line negating a Sudbury touchdown. Linebacker Tyler Dekkers led the defence with 3 solo tackles and 3 assists. The Varsity Stallions next game is this Friday at 8pm against the Toronto Junior Argos at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst. This looks to be a preview of the first round of the playoffs with the winner of Friday’s tilt securing the inside track for home field advantage.
JUNIOR VARSITY
The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team delighted an impressive contingent of Huronia fans that made the trip to Sudbury with a 25-5 victory over the Gladiators. The Stallions won their third consecutive game to improve to 4-2 on the season and more importantly clinch a playoff berth in the OFC’s Northern Conference. The Stallions defence was rock solid yielding zero scoring plays as Sudbury’s points all were accrued on special teams. The top Stallions player was Jacob Tanguay who kicked two field goals and caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Cook. Cook threw another touchdown to receiver Andrew Gill. Defensive back Kayden Peters completed the scoring with a key interception return for a touchdown. The Junior Stallions will attempt to secure a fourth straight win Saturday afternoon at 2pm against Toronto at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst.
BANTAM
The Huronia Stallions Bantam team fell to 5-1 on the season with a 44-26 loss to the Sarnia Sturgeons. The Stallions were able to move the ball well all game but were unable to stop a potent Sarnia attack. Wide receiver Mike Tomczyk had several impressive receptions in critical situations to lead the Stallions offence. Justin Janicki, Issichar Sookwah and Chase Waddick all had strong performances with long touchdown runs. The Stallions next game is this Saturday in Peterborough to take on the undefeated Wolverines with first place and home field advantage on the line.
