It finally caught up with the varsity Niagara Storm team.
The team has been facing an insurmountable challenge. Playing with a shortened bench since the beginning of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) as well as dealing with attendance issues proved to be too much. Consequently, the Storm made the tough decision to forfeit their June 29th, 2013 game against the Guelph Bears.
“The Varsity Storm has been challenged by numbers all season long due to injuries and poor attendance, and so far this season, they have played every game with a short bench,” said James Ryan. “Due to the impending long-weekend, there were simply too many players that weren’t planning to be at the game.”
“As a result, Head Coach Brian B.J. Malott was forced to make the difficult, but necessary decision to forfeit the game. The Niagara Storm apologizes to the Guelph Bears organization and their players.”
