Weir Kickoff Classic stirring up excitement for 2012 season

The 10th Annual Weir Kickoff Classic starts this Thursday afternoon, looking to build off the tremendous success the event has seen over the last decade.

The Kickoff Classic was started in an effort to create excitement for the start 2012 Ontario High School Football season. Heath Weir, co-ordinator and founder of the event wanted to give teams from different bowl regions the chance to play schools they wouldn’t normally play during the regular season.

The event coincides with the release of the 10th edition of Weirs Football magazine, the only magazine in Canada that covers both Ontario High School and CIS Football.

14 teams will participate this year, including the past two Metro Bowl champs, Holy Trinity and Donald A. Wilson. Last years National Capital Bowl finalists the Crestwood Mustangs will also make an appearance.

University scouts will be in attendance for a chance to see the top players and teams in the province.

The event runs Thursday at noon through Friday at 7pm.
