OVFL JV: Wildcats sneak by Cowboys

The junior Varsity Metro Toronto Wildcats are 4-2 after narrowly beating the Halton Cowboys, 14-7.

Although the Wildcats won, their performance was not the best we have seen all season. It was a back and forth defensive matchup, where neither team allowed the other to get settled.

Cowboy quarterback Dominic Florentino was kept to a mere total 56 yards and one touchdown. He only made four completions, one of which being a 56 touchdown pass to receiver Brandon Roberts.

The Wildcats defense played well only allowing minimal yards, including only 23 rushing yards. Linebackers Deshawn Stevens and Jesse Amaral led the defense in tackles. However, like the Cowboys, the Wildcats could not get much done offensively either.

Regular quarterback Jack Vernon did not play, leaving the door open for backup Cole McFarlane. The Halton defense kept him to only six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown pass to Esson Hamilton. The offense was led by Jordan Burgher for a second week in a row with 93 total yards and a touchdown.

The OVFL site had predicted that the Wildcats win this game 42-14. The Wildcats have been accused of β€œsleepwalking” through games before, and this game was definitely closer than it should have been.

Next Saturday the Wildcats will take on the Cumberland Panthers at home. OVFL predicts a final score of 24-35 in favor of the Panthers.Β  The Panthers currently sit in first place in the OVFL with a 6-0 record. They will be the biggest challenge of the season for the Wildcats who have been able to win important games in the past. The Wildcats will need to play their best football of the season if they hope to secure a bye into the semi-finals come playoff time.

The game will be at 2:30PM at Birchmount Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
