Windsor AKO Fratmen’s three-year reign as Ontario Football Conference champs came to an end on Sunday

The Hamilton Hurricanes defeated the Fratmen 52-21 at Tim Hortons Field in the fourth championship meeting between the two teams in the last six seasons. The Hurricanes broke the winning streak of the Fratmen and won their first title in five year.

AKO quickly opened the scoring on quarterback Austin Lumley’s one-yard touchdown run. After Hamilton tied the game, Lumley then hit Curtis Holmes with a five-yard TD pass to put AKO up 13-7. Hamilton rallied to go up 16-13, but with AKO on the Hurricanes’ five with under five minutes left in the half, the Fratmen failed to break the goal-line, then watched a potential tying field goal go wide for a single. Hamilton led 29-14 at halftime and reeled off 33 straight points in the second half before AKO’s Lumley hit Demetrias Kah with a 90-yard TD pass. Windsor failed to get back in the game once there was a 15-point lead. This ends a seven game winning streak for the Hurricanes and adds to seven Ontario titles to their name.

The OFC capped the age at 23 this season for players as they are going to Under-22 next year when they re-enter the national junior championship against the CJFL winner from BCFC and PFC.
