WOLFE: Recruiting Regulations – Questions & Answers

My previous article, “The Recruiting Process”, looked at how an athlete should position himself to get recruited. The article was intended for most athletes hoping to play football at the college/university level. There are however a number of athletes, the so called “blue chip” prospects, who will not have to generate interest. University coaches will be “all over them”, and their challenge will be to reduce the number of suitors, to the schools who offer the best fit.

For the athletes and their parents, a number of recruiting regulations are crucial. Recruits and parents alike should be interested and informed of the “legalities” of recruiting. It is also important to recognize that there will be strategies used by various schools, to pressure a prospect to make a decision that favours their institution.

We at CFC, have been asked some specific questions – When to talk to schools/coaches? When to commit? When, how early, how late will schools offer LOIs/AFAs? Can an LOI and/or AFA be offered with a deadline? I will give my simplified version of the answers, as well as some sites to visit for more detailed information.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
