WOLFE: Unpopular U Sports Decision

Today I write an opinion that will be unpopular with just about everyone, at my age, I don’t need new friends. Many have decried that U Sports is sticking with limiting the age of its football players to under 25, even though there will be no football in 2020 for most U Sports teams and athletes.

The rule affects any football player who turns 25 before September 1st; he or she would be ineligible, considered to be too old. This rule applies to football exclusively.

History tends to be a great teacher; I, therefore, intend to use history to make my point, to do so I will indicate the philosophy behind, and the significant need for the U Sports (CIAU or CIS at the time) “age rule”.
