Montreal linebacker signs with Vanier Cup Champions, becomes first official 2016 CIS commitment.

The Montreal Carabins have officially begun the CIS recruiting race for Class 2016.

Recently, the Vanier Cup Champions signed Bruno-Philippe Desfosses Simard. The 6’1, 215 pound linebacker (SAM) from Montreal will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

Not only is Desfosses –Simard the first Carabins commitment for the 2016 class, but he is also the first confirmed 2016 CIS commitment.

Desfosses Simard has played for CEGEP Division 1 team, Andre-Grasset Phenix.  Previous to the Phenix, he suited up for RSEQ Juvenile Division 3’s College St.Jean Vianney Dragons.

Ultimately, familiarity and comfort were the main reasons the linebacker opted for his local CIS team.

“I committed to Montreal because of the family mentality on the team,” elaborated Desfosses Simard of his decision.  “It’s almost the same as Andre Grasset and that’s the main reason I choose them.”

“I wanted to go to the best team that I could and with the Vanier cup last year, I really think that they are the best team right now. The coaching staff is one of the best in the country. They all have coached me at different times – Paul Eddy and Danny Desriveaux (Bruno Heppel Camp) Fabrice Raymond (Team Quebec) and with [Head Coach] Danny Maciocia I know I’ll be in good hands.”
