- It was another wild week of action across the board with lots of movement on the rankings, and we start in Alberta where Cochrane handed the Rocky View reins over to W.H. Croxford after falling 22-7 in the league finals. The Rocky View league has been dominated by Cochrane for years, so it’s always shocking when they aren’t holding the trophy at the end of the year, but this edition W.H. Croxford are worthy champions and would’ve been a top 10 team on the CFC25 Rankings if they did not move up to the 5A classification in September. Thankfully this doesn’t spell the end of the road for the Cobras season with them moving on to the Zone 2 playdowns where they’ll take on Strathmore this week.

- We had another result in Alberta shake up the rankings with Cardston rocketing up the list after pulling off a definitive 20-7 victory over Catholic Central. We’ve been keeping an eye on Cardston all year waiting for their hallmark moment, and this game was the proof we needed to grant them top ten status as we race towards the provincial playoffs. The result means that Cardston will now take on McCoy, and Catholic Central will take on Medicine in the Zone 1 semifinals.
- It’s championship week in Saskatchewan with the finals set in the Saskatoon 5A League, Regina Stewart Division, South Rural League and North Saskatchewan League. The matchup in Saskatoon was never in doubt with Bishop J. Mahoney and Aden Bowman the clear top two all season, and this one promises to provide all the drama you desire after BJM held on for a tight 24-21 victory in their first meeting. In the North Saskatchewan league it was a similar story with Carlton leading the pack from start to finish as expected, but they were probably surprised to find out their opponent would be North Battleford, who pulled off a 14-0 upset on the road against Martensville to punch their ticket to the finals. Carlton found little resistance in their regular season contest breezing to a 28-2 victory, but anything can happen when the temperatures drop and your facing the reality of no tomorrow. The ultra competitive South Rural League has finally produced a definitive top two with Swift Current blowing out Greenall 41-14 in the semifinals, while Central lived to see another day on the throne after a hard fought 13-8 victory over Yorkton. This championship bout would make a perfect Hollywood film with the upstart Swift Current squad looking to prove they have what it takes to beat the reigning 5A kings when it matters most. Lastly we’ve got Sheldon-Williams taking on Martin/Luther in the Regina Stewart Division finals. While we haven’t had any teams ranked from Regina yet this season, that can still change with the winner out of Regina facing off against the winner from the South Rural League in 5A semifinals.
CFC100 CLASS 2027 RANKINGS
- It’s officially playoff time in Manitoba with West Kildonan holding on for a 15-8 victory over River East to cap off a perfect regular season campaign. We’ve also got Sisler joining the ranking party just in time, who finished with a 6-1 record after a huge 26-17 victory against Springfield to lock-up the second seed. The only loss Sisler suffered was at the hands of River East, and they never had the chance to take on West Kildonan, so we could potentially have a rare first time meeting in the finals if they both take care of business. That’s going to be a lot easier said than done with the Gustafsson Division full of parity this season, so we are anticipating a few surprising results along the way.
- We’ve only got one week left in the Quebec Juvenile DII regular season, and there’s still a ton of room for movement with the top seven teams advancing to the playoffs. Undefeated Saint-Joseph have nothing to sweat with the top seed wrapped up, but they will need to have their guard up with St-Jean-Vianney coming off a tough loss to College de Levis, and the last thing they’ll want is to enter the playoffs with back-to-back losses. The most important matchup will take place between two unranked programs with Dalbe-Viau taking on College de Levis. Both teams enter the game deadlocked at 3-5, so this will be a de facto playoff game and the final chance for the defending champs to sneak into the playoffs and fight to keep their title.
- British Columbia continues to provide headaches for the rankings. It’s a great problem to have because it means we’ve got a great competitive balance where it feels like any team can win on a weekly basis, and it’s going to be fun to see which teams get their act together as the playoffs approach. This week it was College Heights who turned in a shocking result losing 8-0 against Nechako Valley, which makes you start to question everything about the AA division this year. For now, we’ve got Mount Douglas slotting into the 25th spot coming off a 40-12 victory against Spectrum, but they stand on shaky ground with a matchup against Handsworth on deck, who fell off the rankings after their 16-6 loss to Ballenas.
