1. Mavericks: The Consensus number 1 team are last seasons Champions. The Mavs are headed by arguably the best player in the league, grade 10 QB Colton Hunchak. Hunchak possesses elite athletic ability which he uses the run the zone read to perfection creating big plays with his legs. Helping to execute the zone read are RBs Kaedon Armstrong and Xavier Ramsey who transfers to the Mavs in 2013 from the Broncos organization. Completing the stellar offensive attack is a receiving corps lead by Hugh Jones who returns to football this season after suffering a devastating ACL injury last season. Jones is an explosive threat who will provide an extension to the run game being able to handle quick passes and create big gains with his legs. Along with Jones the Mavs will look to Jon Girma and Conner Rasch for big plays through the air. Defensively the Mavs look potent with an intimidating secondary made up of Nick and Aaron Statz, Marco Scafidi and Devon Lee while young Patrick Apuzzo and Conrad David should pack a punch at LB. If the Mavs possess a slight weakness it will be in their line play. The Mavs appear undersized on the line but make up for it with their athleticism and technique.

2. Cowboys: The Cowboys enter 2013 with much excitement. Offensively the young unit is a year older with grade 10 pivot Spencer Mahura throwing to St. Franics teamates Jesse Halvorson and Brett Ellerman who can both stretch the field and create yards after the catch. Furthermore, Giancarlo Spoletini provides the Cowboys with a set of sure hands in the receiving corps and chain moving ability. On the line the Cowboys have two difference makers in Mudiwa Shava and young Michael Polumbo who will look to create big holes for the shifty and quick Franco Poon and the bulldozing style of Ryan Tomchuk. Defensively the Cowboys possess one of the most aggressive and athletic DLine’s in CAMFA with Carlo Gallotta, Zach Urquart and Scoitt Van der Baaren. The strong play from the DL should ease the pressure off a young but promising group of LBs in Thomas Dutton and Austin Daisy while Davis Polmear and Ryan Volpi will lead the secondary.

3. Toppers: Coming off a tremendous 2012 which saw the Toppers lose their first and only game of the season in the final, the 2013 team has many fresh faces looking to prove they can continue the Hilltoppers proud winning tradition. The explosive Tyler Chow returns for his final season of midget as the Toppers top offensive weapon while joining him in the backfield will be Myles Browne. Matthew Fortini takes over at QB and will have Brandon Donst and Clay Flack as his top receiving options. The Toppers OL appears to be a bit of a work in progress and their offensive efficiency may depend highly on their early season development. Defensively the Toppers are tough and fast. Colton Burr and Stephen Nagy are excellent football players at LB while Bowan Lewis will be the anchor in the secondary.

4. Colts: After a solid 2012 which ended with a semi final defeat, the Colts enter 2013 as the consensus favorites from the south. The Colts are lead offensively by QB Ryan Karl who brings a big arm to the unit. Dallas Boath and Nathan McDonald will be Karl’s main weapons. Both posses elite athleticism and good hands. Shawn Gladun will lead the rushing attack with his great vision and explosiveness through the hole while Chase Jenson leads a big and athletic OL. Defensively the Colts look poised for a dominant season. Mitch Mackay and Jared South lead the defense with their tenacity and aggression at LB. The DL looks strong with Justin Burton and Alex Krasowski providing consistent pressure while Zach Warnock and Reid Millz are set to play big roles in the secondary.

Ben Kop

5. Wildcats: The Cats enter 2013 as a team on the rise. With a bevy of grade 11s the time to win for the Cats is now. Ben Kopczynski leads this team at QB. Kop is a true competitor who can beat teams through the air and with his legs. At receiver the Cats will have a multitude of options lead by the speedy Jags Bahia, Jackson Bokenfohr and the up and coming Joel Johnson who also brings a lot to the return game. Falcons transfer Alex Cho will surely bolster the run game while Jesse Williams should provide a solid compliment. The OL is big and experienced with Chris German and newcomer Jason Van der Graaf as players to look out for. Defensively the Cats will be anchored by two grade 11 LBs, Micah Teitz and Kevin Demmers who are both very active against the pass but can bring the hat as well. Abtin Motamehdi and Ethan Tiemstra highlight a younger secondary while Miguel Blacutt, Cole Henry and Orlando Macquay make up a big and tough DL.

6. Bulldogs: Last season the Bulldogs overcame a poor start to finish with a Div 2 championship. In 2013 the Dogs will be hard pressed to improve. Truman Wilson takes over at QB. It will be Wilson’s first season at the helm after providing the Dogs with a potent receiving threat the past two seasons. Braiden Merk, a big and strong inside receiver, will be Wilson’s best option in the pass game while Josh Quarles, one of the fatest players in the league, will play RB. Defensively the unit will be lead by Okotoks draft pick Jordan Rae who is a big and fast DB capable of making plays all over the field. At DL Reid Collins packs a punch while grade 9 Brendan Doubell may already be the Dogs best LB.

7. Stamps: Following a great sophomore season in the midget ranks the Stamps look primed to surprise a few people in 2013. The offense looks potent with Okotoks native Spencer Kiranas leading the unit at QB. Kiranas brings great athleticism to the position and an accurate arm. At his disposal will be a dynamic group of receivers with grade 11 Isaiah McLellan leading the group while Noah Motter appears to be a difference maker with his speed and Trey Kellogg looks hungry to make his mark. Anthony Arnold will lead the run game. Defensively James Gaetz looks primed for a breakout year while George Saloum and Ethan Mahoney lead a solid DL. Dalton Winkworth will be the Stamps best playmaker in the secondary.

8. Fire: In their inaugural CAMFA season the Fire surprised many with a successful freshman campaign earning a spot in the Div 1 playoff bracket. But what a difference a year can make. With only 15 players returning from their 2012 squad the Fire will be looking to several new faces for production. With many questions surrounding the Fire the strength of the team will rest in their Line play lead by returners Joe McQuay and TJ Sloboda. At QB Jarrett Burzuk and Brett Barrett are still fighting it out for the starters role while defensively the Fire will be lead by DB Quade Smith and LB Cody Hawkes.

noah muruve

9. Falcons: Coming off their best year in CAMFA, the Falcons look competitive and capable of big things. Alex Basilis appears to be one of the top young QBs in the city capable of running all over teams and tossing a great ball. The explosive Noah Muruve will be the feature back after a stellar 2012. Muruve is fast and elusive and capable of taking it the distance on every touch. At receiver the Falcons will be relying on Aaron Gruending and Riley Terriff for production. Defensively the Falcons appear a little thin with several question marks. Joe Mostowich and Ben Midgley provide solid athleticism at LB while Eric Britton and Elliott Kenny will lead the secondary.

10. Broncos: With several playmakers on offense the Broncos look to possess the ability to surprise in 2013. Bailey Wasdal returns as the QB with Julien Barnett and Nick Bladen providing him with excellent playmaking targets who he played with at McNally this past high school season. At RB the Broncos will deploy their thunder and lightning pairing of Wyatt Paton and Daniel Adesegun. Defensively the Broncos are lead by big Brady McCafferty who brings a non stop motor to the DL while Reese Samson will look to make his mark at middle LB. Jace Passey and Isaiah Thomas look like the biggest playmakers in the Broncos secondary with both possessing speed and a nose for the ball.

11. Raiders: Following a forgettable 2012 the Raiders look rejuvenated and excited about the potential of the 2013 season. The Raiders have some fire power on offense this season with Philip Hallet leading the way in the receiving corps. Hallet is a quick and solid route runner with soft hands. Throwing him the ball will be Duncan Little who possesses a strong arm and a high football IQ. Running the ball for the Raiders will be the dynamic Josh Duazo who broke a few big plays last season while joining him in the backfield is the reigning CBFA MVP Jordan Baldwin who scored a ridiculous 30+ TDs this past bantam season. Defensively the Raiders look solid with Colton Church and Quinn Yakiwchuk at LB. Both are quick, physical and sure tacklers. Tracker Robinson leads the unit on the DL while Jared Johnson is their best playmaker in the secondary.

12. Lions: The Lions enter the 2013 season as one of the youngest teams in the league with 60% of the roster being made up of first year players. At QB the Lions will look to get both CBFA monster Des Catelier and Sidney Berglund involved splitting time. Their best options in the receiving corps will be Grayson Javorsky and Trevor Teece while Scott Haigh, a tough and agile RB, will head the run attach. Dale Cummings and Luke Edey will lead the OL and appear to be players to watch for. Defensively the Lions will be lead by LB Mike Quillian and DL Justin Sambu both of which are high motor players while Jake Gorman and Bailey Gordon will patrol the secondary.
