Bittersweet day for Thunder

OVFL: The varsityΒ TorontoΒ Thunder fall short inΒ tightΒ gameΒ againstΒ the Markham Raiders while the juniors dominate.

Still dealing with a plethora of injuries, the varsity Thunder fell by a single point in a tough match up against the 4-2 Markham Raiders this past Saturday. The Thunder are now 2-5 in what has been rough year for the club.

Back up quarterback Chris Larsen had a solid outing after a couple of forgettable games throwing for 281 yards, a touchdown, and an interception while running for an additional 39 yards and a score.

Defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers has to be considered the team’s MVP headed in to the final week of the season as he posted another three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. In addition, the player most known for shutting down receivers caught a touchdown pass of his own on Saturday. Β Antoine’s six picks has him tied for second in the OVFL. Matthew Vieira added two interceptions of his own while Peter Nowaczek had seven tackles and three sacks.

Earlier on in the afternoon the junior varsity Thunder got back on track, defeating the junior Raider squad 36-0 to go to 4-3 on the season. The defense held the Raiders to a total 76 yards offense in the win.

Both teams will head home for the final week of the season in what should be two great games against the cross town rival Metro Toronto Wildcats.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
