CFC10 Non-public RANKINGS (1): “Raiders start on top, St Joe’s wins big in opener”

Another year, another CFC10 rankings

The CFC10 rankings are school-based programs who do not play in the Canadian public school leagues and/or play most of their games in the United States.

Last year the Canada Prep Raiders had their best season in program history winning a total of three games out of the eight played against American opponents.  Last year’s squad had almost one third American players and this year’s squad may have the same.  Canada Prep has not responded to request for previews, however we anticipate CFC100 lineman John Kourtis and Nick Sine to anchor the team’s offensive line this season.  They open their season this Saturday against powerhouse St. Francis Academy in Baltimore.

Clarkson opens the week one rankings at number two.  The squad may be a better team this season however the win loss record may be worse due to a power packed schedule.  They open this Friday versus a strong Pickerington North program.  Expect big years from returning defenders and CFC100 players Cameron Gilmore, Adam Sedore, Kail Dava.  The offense is led by underclassmen QB Nick DeJesus who has a big-play receiving core to work with that include CFC100 Nick Mardner & Clark Barnes as well as potential CFC100 players Michael Lehman & Josiah McCoy.

Upper Canada College finds a way to win every year and they do so without the star power of most teams in their league.  This year’s squad are led by CFC100 offensive players Juwan Edghill and Rasheed Tucker. Edghill earned over 1000 all-purpose yards with 8 touchdowns in 9 games last season, while Tucker amassed 1,350 yards on 178 carries and 10 touchdowns last high school season. Both will no doubt continue to add to their campaigns this year.

This may be the year for Len Gurr and the St. Andrew’s College Saints to dominate their league.  CFC100 players to watch include Gabe Wallace, Lucas LaBriere, Ian MacLean, Liam Gracey and Mike Gray.  The Saints open the year with a non-conference game against Al Rover’s Huron Heights Warriors from Newmarket.

The program from St. Joseph High School in Ottawa got off to a big start against Silver Oaks Academy with a 61-0 victory.  QBs Ben Maracle and Avery Dow-Lala orchestrated an offense that saw touchdown scores from Jayden Simmonds (3), John Lubemba, Blade Best, Ben Maracle and Dante Mitchell.  It gets real this weekend versus top Columbus team Oletangy Liberty.  The game will be LIVE STREAMED at this link

St. Michael’s may be poised for a breakout year in CISSA with speedy receiver/RB Eric Johnson, big back Keon Edwards and linemen Luca Blasi and David Dobbins leading the way.  Frank Trentadue always gets his teams ready to play and this year will be no exception.

Royal Imperial Knights scrimmaged versus Johnson Central, powerhouse team from Kentucky last week.  The Knights are led by returners Andy Melo and CFC100 Riley Boersma and newcomer Jacob Spencer.  The departure of head coach Jeff Brown has elevated defensive coordinator Joe Hagins to that role.  The departure of CFC100 Mason Brown may have left the biggest void for the Knights who on film do not look like last year’s squad.

The Trinity College Bears will open up their regular season on Saturday Sept. 23 at home versus St. Andrew’s College. Long time head coach, Drew Allen has spent more than 30 seasons coaching at TCS and has won multiple championships and appeared in numerous bowl games throughout his career. While they went 0-7 last season, they can only look to improve and get back to those championship days this season.
