You can never predict who’s going to come out on top in Canadian high school football, and we’ve got another week of mayhem on the CFC25 Small School Rankings.
We begin in rural Saskatchewan where there’s no way to predict who the top program is with a deadlock at the top. While it was looking like Yorkton would finish the regular season top of the table, instead Central were reading a different script and have turned the division into a three horse race after defeating Yorkton by a score of 24-13. Weyburn got the better of Central earlier in the year with a decisive 27-7 victory, but have one blemish on there resume at the hands of you guessed it – Yorkton. The three rivals now sit atop of the division with one loss apiece, and now we look ahead to the playoff bracket to find out who will claim rural supremacy. It’s going to be a great finish in Saskatchewan when the programs from Regina and Saskatoon get throw into the mix with a provincial title on the line in November. Right now it’s looking like Greenall and Bishop J. Mahoney will earn the right to represent their regions respectively, but we aren’t ready to crown any premature champions with all three divisions going down to the wire this season.

Quebec is the other province where chaos has become the standard with Estacades suffering their first defeat to Saint-Joseph by a score of 27-10. This leaves us with the scenario of College Laval, Dalbe-Viau, College Bourget, Saint-Joseph and Estacades all sporting a 5-1 record as we race towards the playoffs, but of course only one team will raise the banner at the end of the battle. If you’re ready to declare a favourite, then we’re ready to call you a fool because there’s no predicting who will come out on top. The good news for Estacades is that they get a chance to redeem themselves in the final two weeks of the regular season with a pair of tough matchups against Dalbe-Viau and College Bourget that will shake up the rankings once again.
We’ve been keeping an eye out for John Barsby in BC since the preseason where they took on a pair of tough AAA Varsity opponents including a close loss to CFC50 Mt. Douglas, and after a dominant display in their 45-15 win over formerly ranked Ballenas, we believe it’s time to give them the respect they deserve. Admittedly they probably should’ve jumped on the rankings last week after falling just shy of taking down top ranked Robert Bateman in a 38-34 defeat, but they’ve proven the result was no fluke and they’ll be praying they get a shot at redemption come playoff time. Robert Bateman are coming off an impressive 48-0 victory over ranked Langley, which also made it an easy decision to vault John Barsby up the list as the second best team in BC right now.
CFC100 CLASS OF 2024 RANKINGS
Our last bit of drama came in Ontario where Crestwood took the COSSA region by storm with their 48-16 victory over the defending champions Holy Cross. The Mustangs are no strangers to the top of the division with five appearances at the OFSAA Festival throughout the years, but they will have to deal with Thomas A. Stewart eventually who are also off to a flying 2-0 start outscoring their opponents 78-3 in the process.
It was business as usual for the rest of our ranked programs, but if they can learn anything from the past two weeks, complacency is the enemy because nobody is safe in the Canadian high school football world.
