CFC#3 Sutherland reveals top 5 schools, set to announce commitment Sunday (VIDEO)

A lengthy recruitment process which netted 28 NCAA offers is about to come to an end for CFC#3 Jonathan Sutherland.

Last night, Gridiron Academy’s Victor Tedondo announced on social media that the 6’0, 190 pound defensive back from Ottawa, Ontario has narrowed down his selection to five NCAA Division 1 schools. Ā Moreover, Sutherland will be making his verbal commitment on Sunday, following in the footsteps of how teammate and CFC#2 Luiji Vilain declared his choice:

As Tedondo has listed, Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), Penn State Nittany Lions, Michigan Wolverines, Syracuse Orange, Boston College Eagles and Wisconsin Badgers are in the running.

Some of the frontrunners have Canadian pipelines. Ā If Sutherland opts for the Wolverines, he wil join Vilain, who verbally committed last month.Ā As for the Eagles, the standout would extend a Canadian tie to the school as the most recent player to suit up there was defensive lineman Mehdi Abdesmad, who recently signed a free agency contract with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. Equally, the Nittany Lions was the previous home of both Toronto running back Akeel LynchĀ  (now with Nevada Wolfpack)Ā and 2014 #CFC100 top ranked prospect Michael O’ConnorĀ (guided UBC Thunderbirds to Vanier Cup in 2015).

However, if the defensive back picks the Syracuse Orange, he will become the third Canadian prospect and #CFC100 ranked player to verbally commit there.in over a month as Tyrell RichardsĀ and CFC#4 Joshua PalmerĀ both opted for the team.

Sutherland is currently playing alongside CFC#2 ViIain south of the border for Episcopal Maroon in Alexandra, Virginia.

He has previously suited up for the Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and North Gloucester Giants of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).

In May, Sutherland was ranked third in the first edition of the #CFC100 CLASS 2017 RANKINGS.

He trains with Tedondo at Gridiron Academy in Ottawa, Ontario.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
