The crowd is beginning to get smaller on the dance floor, but the action is only heating up.

We begin this week’s journey in Alberta where we finally got the grand finale to a fantastic season of football. After both city champions got upset in the semifinals, Harry Ainlay took the crown again with a convincing 28-2 victory over St. Francis. It’s the fourth straight time both programs have met in the Alberta Tier I Championship, and the third time the Titans got the better of their rivals from Calgary. Elsewhere Raymond got the job done in the Regional Based Tier I Championship with a 45-17 victory over Ross Sheppard. The Comets played a very tough schedule including games against Harry Ainlay, Notre Dame and St. Francis, so it would’ve been fun to see how they stacked up at the end of the year against the top four programs in the Alberta, but that’s a story that will never be told.
We now head to beautiful British Columbia where B.C. Place took centre stage for the provincial semifinals this past weekend. After watching Vancouver College get eliminated in shocking fashion, there was no telling what might unfold this time around, but the top ranked teams were able to avoid the same fate. After a well earned rest to begin the playoffs, Terry Fox got back to business against a tough squad from Notre Dame, and they left no doubt in the end who the better team was running away with a 27-12 victory. They now prepare to faceoff against G.W. Graham in the B.C. AAA Varsity Finals, who had a very busy week beginning with a 27-20 victory over Mount Douglas, and then followed it up with a 19-0 shutout over Centennial. The Grizzlies only loss of the year came at the hands of the Ravens who showed no mercy in a 34-0 beatdown, but you can throw all records out the window on Saturday when these two meet again at B.C. Place.

We finish with our last province still braving the cold to decide title winners as Ontario gets ready for a makeshift OFSAA Bowl Festival that already crowned Korah as Northern Bowl Champions, and five more bowl games to look forward to this week. The biggest news comes out of Hamilton where St. Thomas More extended their unbeaten streak to 44 straight in Canada with a 43-0 victory over Oakville Trafalgar in the GHAC Finals. The Knights are now looking to set the record with their sixth straight OFSAA title after tying the record in 2019 against W.F. Herman, who are the co-record holders. They’ve beaten every opponent put in their way since 2015, but have yet to deal with Huron Heights who has an equally impressive record at OFSAA throughout the years with five titles in seven appearances since 2012. Last time we had a number one versus number two matchup the weather spoiled the party with turbulent conditions in Ottawa, so let’s pray for a perfect day of football in Hamilton when these two powerhouses finally settle who the best in the province is.
With that hype out of the way, we also have an upset to report out of London as Sir Wilfrid Laurier took down South 14-13 in the TVDSB Final, setting up a TVRA Finals matchup against Catholic Central. The Crusaders have outplayed their opponents all year with their closest call coming last week in a 17-7 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas in the London District Finals, but the Rams have proven to be one of the toughest teams to eliminate this season, and we should get a great matchup on Friday night under the lights.
Our final game to report comes out of Barrie where St. Joan of Arc sprung back into action with a massive 24-7 victory over Bear Creek. It’s the third straight GBSSA title for the Knights and seventh in school history, but sadly this will be the end of the road without a bid at OFSAA this season.

Who’s getting ranked?
For the tenth year in a row, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national high school football rankings known as the CFC50.
The CFC50 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are classified as non-conference games) and forfeit* wins are not considered towards overall record.
How is the CFC50 evaluated?
Leagues included in rankings: British Columbia AAA Varsity, Alberta Tier One, Saskatchewan 12-man rural / 6A / Schwann, Manitoba AAA Varsity, Ontario OFSAA Bowl AAA qualified teams, Quebec Juvenile Division 1, New Brunswick 12-man, Nova Scotia (all teams excluding CFC25 eligible teams).
The CFC50 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers top tier leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.
The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The CFC50 is released every Monday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.
