Disappointing loss

OVFL:Ā Junior Ravens lose last second thriller to Lions

When it was announced that Essex Ravens and Cambridge Lions would meet for the junior varsity Adams Conference Championships, it was expected that this would be a heavy weight fight and these two teams would exchange blows all game long, with one team barely holding on at the endā€”and thatā€™s exactly how it went.

The Lions sent the Ravens packing after a 35-28 defeat this past weekend.

On the opening kickoff, the Lions would return for a score to take an early 7-0 lead. Ā Subsequent to that, a Ravens touchdown late in the first half would round out the scoring. Ā The two teams were tied 7-7 at halftime.

The second half saw the teams exchange touchdowns multiple times. The Ravens Ā jumped out to a 14-7 lead midway through the thirdĀ quarter. Ā However, the Lions quickly responded and once again tied the game 14-14.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Ravens would score and regain their lead by a 21-7 margin. Yet again, the lead would be short lived as the Lions scored once again to tie the game at 21.

With less than 6 minutes to play, the Ravens Ā jumped ahead and took a 28-21 lead and thought they saw the end of the tunnel. However with 2:51 left, the Lions spoiled the party to tie the game at 28. After a defensive stand, the Lions got the ball back and scored with less than two minutes to play and give them the victory and eliminate the Junior Ravens from the playoffs in the process.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
