Kingston, ON – The senior varsity Grenadiers extended their winning start to the season to 3-0 after defeating the Hawkeyes 13-3 in Oshawa on Saturday. The junior team also picked up their third win of the season with a 29-2 win over the Hawkeyes.

This Saturday, June 11 the Grenadiers are back at home to host the Ottawa Myers Riders. The senior varsity team kicks off the day at noon with the junior game following at 3 p.m. Both Myers and the GMen lead the league in points with three wins apiece.

“This is a big game but it does not define the season,” says senior varsity coach Mark Magee. “As a team we worry about ourselves. We must work hard and practice properly to be as good as we can be, in preparation for our next opponent.”

During half time of the senior varsity game Grenadier parent Ken Goodfellow will take centre field as he “makes the cut” for cancer. Goodfellow’s fallen ponytail will be shipped to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a Canadian Cancer Society partner turning donated hair into wigs for women living with cancer. Cash donations will also be collected throughout the day.

“This week we are also excited to celebrate our future Grenadiers,” says Alexandra Reyes-Walsh, executive director. “If you wear your Thousand Island Minor Football League (TIMFL) jersey, you and one adult will get in to the game for free this Saturday.”

Regular gate admission is $5 for the day and children under 12 are always free. Home games are played at L.C.V.I., 153 Van Order Dr. and there is plenty of free parking.

Over the next several Saturdays, the Grenadier teams will be on the road traveling between Toronto and Ottawa, “If you can’t make the road trips you can still keep up with the scores by following us on Twitter @GrensFootball,” added Reyes-Walsh.

The teams will be at home again on July 16 for the final day of the regular season as the seniors take on the Cornwall Panthers at noon followed by junior action vs the Sault Ste. Marie Sabrecats at 3 p.m.
