OVFL:  Sault Ste. Marie Sabrecats win 25-22 thriller over Brampton Bulldogs

Sault Ste. Marie Sabrecats ended their Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) season on a high note as the team pulled out a 25-22 win over the Brampton Bulldogs this past weekend.

Stevan Hiiemaa was the hero for the Sabrecats as he ran into the end zone for a two yard touchdown run as time ran out.  This capped off an impressive day on the field for Hiiemaa who racked up 157 rushing yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns.

Sabrecats pivot Austin Maccarone had six completions in 12 attempts for 62 passing yards.  David Toppan chipped in with 45 receiving yards on four catches while Sean McGonigal added 39 receiving yards on two catches.  Kicker Carlo Carchidi was successful on a 42 yard field goal attempt.

On defense, Ray Duplin led the way for the victors by registering six solo tackles, six assisted tackles, a sack and three fumble recoveries.

At halftime, the Sabrecats trailed the Bulldogs 10-3.

For the Bulldogs, Xavier Rogers had a 20 yard touchdown catch. Both Odinka Onyenka and Akeem Johnson each ran interceptions into the end zone for tallies.

The Sabrecats finish the OVFL regular season with a 2-8 record.
