Bubba’s Boys

OVFL: Junior varsity Thunder set to make playoff push

Toronto junior varsity Thunder coach Roberto Allen, or coach Bubba, has clear goals for his team’s 2013 campaign, stating plainly “our first goal is to get into the play-offs, our second goal is to make it to the championship game and our third goal which is the ultimate goal is to win the championship game.”

In order to accomplish their goals the JV Thunder will look to returning veterans Nathaniel Anderson(DE), Jesse Meyler(OT), Conner Lindeman(SLB/TE), Jalen Martin(SB), Daynar Facey(WR), Marcus Hamilton(CB), Chad Elliott(CB), Nh’Shaun Allen(FS), Ezekiel Doe(HB), William Caswell(C), Rayvaun McCurdy(DE) and Amir Zeisler(MLB) for continuing excellence on the field. Even with a solid core of key veterans the team will rely on rookies Andre Goulbourne(TB), Steve Mpenga(TB), Raymond Zhang(OG), Raign Harris(SB), Dimario Davis (OLB), Dennis Tran(NT) and two new signal callers with Simon Ip(QB) and Connor Smith(QB).

Coach Bubba believes that a talented backfield and an imposing front seven on defense will be bright spots for the 2013 team, as the coach praised the team’s depth at running back and the athleticism of it’s defensive line and linebacking core.

Admittedly coach Bubba acknowledged a young and inexperienced offensive line that will need to grow as a unit as a potential low spot for the team, but believes that by mid season the group has a chance to be among the league’s best art the position.

On offense the Thunder attack will feature wide open sets that emphasize athleticism and opportunities for play makers to get involved in different ways. The defense will feature an aggressive scheme, playing man coverage and allowing that talented front seven to wreak havoc for opposing offenses.

The team has two games highlighted on the schedule this season, a game in Ottawa against the Myers Riders (Saturday, July 6th), and a game against cross town rivals the Metro Toronto Wildcats (Saturday, July 20th).
