OVFL & OFC RECAP (VARSITY – WEEK 4): Prucha, Kussmann & #CFC100 Osei-Kusi shine in losses & offensive outburst in London

The competition continues to heat up as both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC) as approaching the halfway mark of the season.

In the OVFL, there were no shutouts.  Among the winners were Kingston Grenadiers, Metro Toronto Wildcats, Hamilton Ironmen, Cumberland Panthers, Toronto Thunder, Essex Ravens, Mississauga Warriors and Niagara Spears.

Meanwhile, Peterborough Wolverines, Huronia Stallions, Guelph Jr Gryphons and Toronto Jr Argos were among the winners this past weekend in a light OFC schedule.

Here are the results for Week 4 in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC):

KINGSTON GRENADIERS 21, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 14:

At Loyalist Collegiate this past Saturday afternoon, Calvin de Fayette scored a touchdown and rushed for 209 yards on 25 carries as the Kingston Grenadiers pulled out a 21-14 win over York Simcoe Bucs.

Grenadiers pivot Dylan Fisher completed 12 passes in 18 attempts for 136 yards and a passing touchdown.  Jeremy Pendergast had 107 yards on six receptions in the victory.

On defence, Cameron Hebert recorded two solo sacks as well as five solo and five assisted tackles.

As for the Bucs, Marc Liegghio added two PAT’s.  Michael Bazzo completed 14 passes in 25 attempts for 163 yards and a passing touchdown.

Cole Macfarlane

METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 35, CORNWALL WILDCATS 14:

On Saturday late afternoon as Joe St. Denis Field, Cole Macfarlane completed 14 passes in 21 attempts for 182 yards and five passing touchdowns as the Metro Toronto Wildcats cruised to a 35-14 victory over Cornwall Wildcats.

Mekhi Hyman rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries for the Wildcats.  Quinn Charles was successful on five conversion attempts.

Alex Douglas tallied a major for the Wildcats and racked up 104 yards on five receptions.  Jakob Loucks completed 14 passes in 23 attempts for 189 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss. Christopher Millward added two PAT’s.

HAMILTON IRONMEN 35, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 6:

Tyler Ternowski led the Ironmen with three majors on the day.  He ran across the goal line from 5 yards and one yard and hooked up with pivot Alex DiPietro from 7 yards away.  Vincenzo DiDiomede scampered in from 3 yards away as well as latching onto an Alex Brophy pass from 14 yards out.  David Benedetti was good on 3 of 4 convert attempts and the defence tackled the rusher in the end zone to earn a safety touch.  Justice Allin found the end zone from 14 yards out for the Eagles only score.  Ironmen improve to 1-3 while the Eagles drop to 0-3.

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 44, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 14:

At Millennium Park on Saturday evening, 2015 #CFC100 and OPC participant Kurleigh Gittens Jr scored three touchdowns, amassed 123 yards on seven receptions and added five PAT’s as well as a rouge at the Cumberland Panthers dismantled the Oshawa Hawkeyes 44-14.

Jamarcus Williams tallied a major of a punt return in the victory.  Justin Poitras completed 12 passes in 15 attempts for 207 yards and four passing touchdowns.

On defence, Dan Basambombo racked up three solo and ten assisted tackles for the Panthers.

Dawson Odei rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries for the Hawkeyes.  Pivot Kyle Baronet completed 11 passes in 17 attempts for 152 yards and two passing touchdowns in the loss.

Drue Moore led the Hawkeyes defence as he recorded a solo sack as well as nine solo and four assisted tackles.

Raign Harris

TORONTO THUNDER 52, MARKHAM RAIDERS 28:

On Saturday evening at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, Raign Harris tallied two majors and racked up 151 yards on four receptions as Toronto Thunder thumped Markham Raiders 52-28.

Jhovan McPherson scored two touchdowns and rushed for 114 yards on 10 carries in the win.  Daynar Facey added two PAT’s.

Desron Keir Jr caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for a 40 yard touchdown score.  Additionally, he added seven solo tackles.

Jeremiah Marriott recorded a sack as well as eight solo and three assisted tackles for the Hawkeyes. Joshua Ferrusi chipped in with four solo and 11 assisted tackles.  Adrian Bah registered six solo and seven assisted tackles.

As for the Raiders, Matt Prucha completed 26 passes in 54 completions for 350 yards and three passing touchdowns. Mason Posival tallied a major and had 186 yards on eight receptions in the loss.

Tyler Munro scored a touchdown and rushed for 83 yards on 17 carries. Majeed Zabsonre was successful on four conversion attempts for the Raiders.

ESSEX RAVENS 35, SAULT (SSM) SABRECATS 7:

At Rocky DiPietro Field on Saturday night, the Essex Ravens dismantled Sault (SSM) Sabrecats 35-7.

Among the touchdown scorers for the Ravens were Braeden Braccio, Pran Duhanaj and Nick Langley.

For the Sabrecats, Jarret Litalien tallied the lone major for the Sabrecats.  Furthermore, Tristan Marshall rushed for 124 yards on 17 carries.

MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 26, BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 23:

On Saturday night at Chinguacousy Park, the Mississauga Warriors narrowly escaped with a 26-23 victory over Brampton Bulldogs.

#CFC100 Jack Cassar registered eight solo and two assisted tackles for the Warriors.  Merrick Sproule added two field goals (40 yards, 14 yards) as well as two PAT’s.  Ali Al-Radayeh rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries in the win.

As for the Bulldogs, 2015 #CFC100 Chris Osei-Kusi scored two touchdowns and amassed 150 yards on four receptions.  Stone Sousa completed 12 passes in 19 attempts for 233 yards, two passing touchdowns and rushed for 92 yards on 13 carries in the loss.

Tyrell Richards added three field goals and two PAT’s for the Bulldogs.  Donovan Glave led the defence with a solo tackle, an assisted sack, three solo tackles and six assisted tackles.

NIAGARA SPEARS 43, LONDON JR MUSTANGS 40:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium under Saturday Night Lights, OPC pivot Blair Robertson connected with Austin Pilato in the dying seconds of the game for a touchdown as give the visiting Niagara Spears 43-40 victory over hosts London Jr Mustangs.

OPC participant Jack Gelbart tallied two majors and had 126 yards on nine receptions.  Cam MacDonald added a score and rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries for the Spears.  Matteo Pennacchietti added a touchdown.

Robertson completed 20 passes in 40 attempts for 289 yards and four passing touchdowns in the win.

On defence, Anthony Frederico blocked a punt as well as added a solo and five assisted tackles.  Zyer Harris chipped in with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Moreover, George Zeigler registered five assisted and three solo tackles.  Laelan Reilly added five assisted and four solo tackles for the Spears.

For the Jr. Mustangs, Cole Kussmann scored four touchdowns and rushed for 271 yards on 23 carries. Brentyne AndersonBrown tallied a major and rushed for 75 yards on six carries.

Neil Garrity added two field goals (24 yards, 19 yards) and four PAT’s in the loss.

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 65, NIPISSING WILD 3:

Devon MacCallum tallied three majors as the Peterborough Wolverines crushed Nipissing Wild 65-3.

Ross Cameron added two touchdowns while Nathan O’Keefe, Spencer Johnston, Tyler Obront and Devin Claypole all added single majors.  Claypole also added a field goal and 8 PAT’s.
