OVFL: Varsity Falcons offense scores early and often with help from Borucki

The London Falcons visited Guelph to play the Bears in Varsity (OVFL) action on Saturday.Ā  The Bears were very hospitable early in the game, turning the ball over numerous times to set up scores for the Falcons.Ā  The Falcons passing attack continued to show why they are the top in the Varsity division.

Early and often.Ā  That is the script that every team hopes to use and it is one that the Falcons were able to execute.Ā  On the first play from scrimmage league leading passer Blake Huggins hooked up with Nathaniel (Nate) Behar for a nice 35 yard pass play.Ā  Three plays later the Falcons looked like they had opened the scoring only to be called back on a receiver offside penalty.Ā  The next play the Bears extended the drive on a unnecessary roughness call.Ā  Then on the next play Isaiah Mels caught a Huggins pass for the TD.Ā  Matt Wolfe (Acadia commit) kicked the convert to put the visitors up 7 to 0 at the 12:43 mark.

Guelph went 3 and out (3 incompletions) on their first series and the Falcons scored two plays later, set up by a first play 54-yard pass to Marcus Dotterman.Ā  Thomas LaPointe scored the touchdown.Ā  14 to 0 – 9:54

The quarter continued to follow a similar script, Guelph not getting any offensive production and the Falcons chewing up yardage quickly on their offense.Ā  The next two scores for the Falcons were the direct result of Bear turnovers.Ā  The first was after a fumble recovery by Lawson Seddon.Ā  The Falcons scored 3 plays later – Behar.Ā  The second was on the last play of the quarter when Marek Borucki juggled an interception, secured it, and ran to the house for a pick six.Ā  28 to 0 at the end of one quarter.

The Falcons continued to control much of the rest of the game.Ā  The Bears did not give up and scored on two touchdownn passes of their own – Sharieff Peru and Jacob Frimeth – from QB Jonathan Bietz.

Defensive player of the game Marek Borucki finished the scoring with his second defensive TD of the game with a ‘scoop & score’ fumble recover and run.Ā  Nice job Marek.

Final score 53 to 14.

NOTE: Nice to see recent CIS graduates as the bulk of both coaching staffs.Ā  They tend to be the most ‘level-headed’ and most ‘up-to-date’ coaches…mostly
