WOLFE: The Constant Coaching Carousel

The recent firing of Texas University coach Tom Herman provoked an inclination to write this article summarizing some of my thoughts on the subject of changing coaches. I was also propelled by the “Black Monday” effect which occurs on the Monday following the last week of the NFL’s regular schedule. The term’s connotation being that that is a day filled with negative news, in this case, the firing of coaches and/or general managers.

As a lifelong coach, I understand as well as anyone that job security and coaching are not synonymous. As many NFL coaches have declared – NFL stands for “not for long”, concerning how long they might be with their current team, unless they win consistently.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
