MMJFL (4): Friday Night Lights

This weekend the Manitoba Major Junior Football League has three games on tap. Two of these games will be played Friday night under the lights creating the perfect setting to start your weekend.

In East Kildonan the Eagles are entertaining the Nationals from Transcona. Entertaining may be the wrong word to use as the Eagles have a nasty tendency to run up the score if they find a weakness in their opponent. In last weekend’s game the Nationals may have been exposed, or maybe the boys from the rail yard can just β€˜blame it on the rain’ when discussing their Week 3 one sided loss. We’ll find out Friday night.

In Fort Garry, the Lions are hosting the Falcons from Greendell. With the Lions getting their Mojo back, thanks to their dominant performance in last weekend’s game, the Falcons could be in for a rough night. The Lions defense is back to shutout form and the Fort Garry running game is starting to fire on all cylinders.

On Saturday the Rods travel to Brandon for the second phase of the home and home series against the Wolverines. The Wolverines found the Rods to be anything but hospitable in St. James last week and now the team from Westman Β may want to return the favour. The Rods are proving week to week that they are a much improved team from last year. We’ll see if the boys from Brandon can slow the momentum that the St. James Rods have set in motion.
