- 7) THUNDERBIRDS BIG ATTEMPT:
In a report by La Presse’s Oliver Bosse, it was revealed that the UBC Thunderbirds tried to lure Glen Constantin away from Le Belle Province to the West Coast. The Thunderbirds approached Constantin to see if he was interested in taking over their Head Coaching vacancy; however, he declined as he was happy with his situation with the Rouge et Or. Last month, the Thunderbirds named former Calgary Dinos Head Coach Blake Nill as their new Head Coach.

- 6) MAJOR HAPPENINGS WITH MCGILL COACHING VACANCY:
This past week, sources confirmed to CFC that former Montreal Alouettes pivot Anthony Calvillo was offered the McGill Redmen Head Coach position. However, he turned it down. Moreover, the Redmen have indicated that they will have a formal announcement next week on who is the new Head Coach for the team. In an interview with Richard Boutin from Le Journal de Montreal, Redmen Athletic Director Drew Love confirmed that interviews were conducted last week as well as this week. Among the candidates is the team’s Defensive Coordinator Ron Hilaire. However, Offensive Coordinator Pat Boies is not in the mix. As he has become a father recently, he would like to keep his focus simply on his family and his current position.
- 5) CFC 100 COMMITMENT WATCH:
One of the biggest names still remaining in the recruitment market, CFC 100 running back Cedric Joseph is still debating where he will commit. The 6’1, 197 pound offensive standout, who recently completed his CEGEP career with Division 1 team Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars has several schools on his radar as possible destinations – Western, Bishop’s, Concordia, Carleton and Guelph. He will shortlist those options down to three schools in the next couple of weeks. While he will take time to look over all his options, he will visit some of these schools in the coming days. However, he wants to continue studying in English. Additionally, he is looking for not only a strong football program, but one that has the entities he needs to make it to the next level. Based on this, there is one program that fits the bill (think Ontario purple) – Stay tuned for how this unfolds!
- 4) FEARLESS HELPING HAND:
The Manitoba Fearless came to the aid of a girl who had her hockey gear stolen. Kailey Lovejoy, who is 10 years old, was invited to one of the Fearless’ practices where the team presented her with a set of hockey gloves. Lovejoy was touched by the gesture.
- 3) NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP/CANADIAN CONNECTION:
ESPN came to Quebec City this past week to bring a Canadian flair to the NCAA National Championship Game. The network connected with Hotel de Glace and Martin Ernst ended up carving an ice replica of the NCAA Championship Trophy. Then, a crew from the network came and shot some footage which aired on their “Raising the Trophy” feature this past Monday during the pregame show.

- 2) WILLSON’S PLAYOFF FEAT:
LaSalle, Ontario’s Luke Willson achieved a significant accomplishment last weekend. In the Seattle Seahawks NFC Divisional Playoff Semi-Final victory over the Carolina Panthers, Willson scored his first career playoff touchdown – a 25 yard reception. The Seahawks will face the Green Bay Packer this upcoming Sunday to earn their berth to Super Bowl XLIX on February 1st, in Glendale, Arizona.
- 1) RAMS NEW HEAD COACH INTRODUCED:
Last week, Mike Gibson was formally introduced as the Regina Rams Head Coach at a Press Conference. Among the objectives for the Gibson include team discipline on and off the field as well as recruitment, especially strengthening the fence within the Regina area.
