CFC25 FINAL Rankings: Thrilling season ends with the National Title in Alberta

The CFC25 Small School National Title belongs to the Holy Trinity Academy Knights.

It was a photo finish between Holy Trinity Academy, Robert Bateman, Vincent Massey and Bishop J. Mahoney, who all deserve applause for putting together fantastic records across the country, and all received consideration as the top program on the CFC25 Small School Rankings. In a dream world, we’d have our own national playoffs to find out who the top team truly is, but that’s a fantasy that will need to wait until another season. This is the second CFC25 title for Holy Trinity Academy, who have won two out of the last four Alberta Tier II provincial titles, and were absolutely dominant along the way outscoring their provincial opponents 143-42 across three playoff games. The Knights were led this year by an elite group of prospects who should earn a chance to continue their football career at the next level including QB Ryan Petersen, DT Lukas Smith, LB Marshall Hartwell, WR Thomas Rodehutskors and RB Seth Poelzer.

We have one last championship game to report from BC before signing out from rankings central this year, and it didn’t turn out the way everyone envisioned at John Barsby. Their regular season matchup with Robert Bateman left a lot of hope after falling in a shootout 38-34, but it was a different story once they stepped on the field at BC Place with the AA Varsity title on the line. Bateman decided to play keep away in the first half calling an onside kick on the opening kickoff, and that would set the tone for the rest of the game. Their first drive ended with a touchdown by RB Taejshon Catlin, and then they decided to do another onside kick that landed in the hands of the Timberwolves again. Like clockwork, QB Nolan Watrin moved the ball down field before scampering into the end zone to increase their lead to 14-0 before the Bulldogs could even touch the ball. Watrin would continue to find success through the air with a touchdown pass to WR Rayne Lang, and then following another onside kick recovery, a rushing touchdown by RB Isaac Lynn increased their lead to 28-0 and essentially put an end to any hopes the Bulldogs had before halftime. For good measure, Watrin would throw two more touchdown passes in the second half to WR Liam Olafsen and WR AJ Nguyen to help put the game to rest with the Timberwolves prevailing 45-14 to claim their first ever AA provincial title. It was a picture perfect performance for Bateman, who were determined to erase the bad taste in their mouths leftover from last season when they fell 41-38 in overtime against CFC50 Carson Graham in the AA Coastal Championship. It was an incredible season with the Timberwolves running the table with a 13-0 record including preseason action, and in the process they outscored their opponents 422-83 including six shutouts.
