#CFC50 2016 high school RANKINGS (13): 2nd to last ranking, top 10 gets a shake up

For the seventh year in a row, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national high school football rankings known as the #CFC50. The #CFC50 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are non-conference games).

How is the #CFC50 evaluated?

Leagues included in rankings: British Columbia AAA Varsity, Alberta Tier One, Saskatchewan 12-man 4A, Manitoba AAA Varsity, Ontario OFSAA Bowl AAA qualified teams, Quebec Juvenile Division 1, New Brunswick 12-man, Nova Scotia Tier 1.

The #CFC50 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers top tier leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league that they play in. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. #CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.

The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The #CFC50 is released every Monday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.

No. 1 W. F. Herman Green Griffins – The Griffins are showing us just what a winning culture looks like. Having won the SWOSSAA championship this weekend against St. Patrick’s, 42-7, they have earned a spot in the coveted OFSAA Bowl festival where they will be playing in the last game of the Bowls on the last day, the Western Bowl. Their opponent? The feisty No. 9 Huron Heights Warriors. The province is a buzz with this matchup, it will be a good one.

No. 2 A. N. Myer Marauders – Explosive plays are what this game showcased versus the No. 20 Denis Morris Reds who gave it their all being down 21-3 at the half. With a final score of 31-24, the Marauders prevailed and will now go on to the OFSAA Central Bowl where No. 10, the Jacob Hespeler Hawks, will be waiting. This will also be a fantastic game to watch.

No. 3 Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard – Quebec 2016 RSEQ juv. Division 1 Champions

No. 4 Leboldus Golden Suns – Saskatchewan 2016 4A Provincial Champions

No. 5 St. Francis Browns – In what could be described as an incredible defensive battle, the Browns are back-to-back Alberta Tier 1 Provincial Champions as they defeated the No. 8 Bev Facey Falcons, 16-11, in the final minutes of the game. Either one of these teams could have easily been the champion. We congratulate the Browns on their great season.

No. 6 St. Paul’s Crusaders – Manitoba 2016 AAA Provincial Champions

No. 7 Terry Fox Ravens – In another nail biter of a game, the Ravens just squeaked out the win against the South Delta Sun Devils, 22-21, in the BC AAA provincial semi-finals. While it looked like the Sun Devils were going to pull off the upset, the Ravens went to the very end and finished the deal. They are now headed to face the No. 14, Notre Dame Jugglers, in the provincial championship game. Will they come out with a perfect season record and the title to boot?

No. 8 Bev Facey Falcons – As mentioned above, Bev Facey lost to their rival in the South, 16-11, in an intense and terrific game. While the old saying may ring true “Offense wins games, but defence wins championships”, there is nothing to take away from the fantastic season the Falcons had almost finishing with a perfect season (11-1). They’ll have a lot to chew on this off-season and we will be waiting to see them back here next year if they have anything to say about it.

No. 9 Huron Heights Warriors – The Warriors were sitting patiently waiting to see who they would be playing in the OFSAA Western Bowl this Wednesday night. And the No. 1 Green monster called their number with their SWOSSAA win this past week. As mentioned above, this will be a great game to watch and really determine the level that both these teams are playing at.

No. 10 Jacob Hespeler Hawks – The Hawks beat No. 50, Guelph Gaels, 44-14, in the CWOSSA final and will now play in the OFSAA Central Bowl against No. 2, the A. N. Myer Marauders. Again, with it hard to determine what level each Ontario conference is playing at, this Bowl game is going to give us a very clear picture. Another fantastic game to get to.
