CFC25 Small School Rankings WEEK 11: Dalbe-Viau would not be denied

TOP HEADLINES

  • We had high hopes for an all-time classic showdown in Quebec, but Dalbe-Viau had no interest in complying after a dominant 33-7 victory over Deux-Montagnes to bring home the DII Bol d’Or. It’s an amazing achievment for Dalbe-Viau, who decided to take the leap of faith joining the DII conference in 2022, and their gamble has paid off in spades claiming two championships in their first three years. Now it’s time for the age old debate – is two out of three considered a “dynasty”? Or do they need to add one more to their trophy cabinet next year? We have a sneaky feeling everyone at Dalbe-Viau is too busy celebrating another fantastic run through Quebec to worry about next season just yet.

  • It was destined to come down to this rematch, wasn’t it? The Tier II season in Alberta is going to end how it started with another showdown between Holy Trinity Academy and St. Joseph’s in the grand finals. Holy Trinity Academy left zero doubts about who the better team was on opening day with a convincing 45-7 victory – but that doesn’t mean St. Joseph’s isn’t the better team now. They’ve had nine games since to figure out what went wrong the first time around, and have probably been dreaming of redemption everyday at practice as they marched towards another Alberta Bowl appearance. Not only is this a rematch from earlier in the season, but it’s also a rematch of the 2021 Tier II finals when St. Joseph’s prevailed 35-19, which is also the last time the Celtics were crowned provincial champions. The Knights followed up their heartbreak in 2022 with their last Tier II title against Austin O’Brien, and will be making their fifth appearance in the last six seasons with a 2-2 record in the finals.
  • And then there were four. We’ve finally reached the semifinals in British Columbia, and we are salivating at the potential of these two matchups at BC Place. On one side of the bracket we’ve got a juicy rematch between Windsor and Robert Bateman, who met last year in the quarterfinals with Windsor coming out on top in dramatic fashion 15-13. Then on the other side, we’ve got the ultimate underdogs College Heights making the long 10 hour trip from Prince George to BC Place to take on the reigning champions Vernon. The storylines write themselves, now we just have to sit back with a big bag of popcorn and find out what the conclusion will be.

CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS

  • Congratulations are in order for Clarkson, who completed their undefeated season in style with a 36-0 victory over Brampton Centennial to claim the ROPSSAA Tier II championship. The Chargers have been forced to play backseat to Clarkson Football North, who have earned all the headlines with their elite program operating out of Clarkson Secondary in recent years, but this season they won’t be the only team on campus adding some hardware to the trophy case. They are the only AA school competing in the Tier II division, but size meant absolutely nothing this campaign with Clarkson running through the competition with a perfect 8-0 record while outscoring their opponents 242-45.
