CFC25 Small School Rankings FINAL: Magical ending to a magical season

Congratulations to every program across Canada who made an appearance on the rankings this season, and a huge thank you to all the dedicated coaches from coast to coast who volunteer their time every year to help our game continue to grow and make the CFC50 Rankings possible.

  • For the third time in five season, the Holy Trinity Academy Knights are the CFC25 Small School National Champions. The Knights finish their campaign with a spectacular 10-1 record, and they could’ve easily gone undefeated if they didn’t go out of their way to put Raymond on their schedule, who ended up falling short to CFC50 top ranked Harry Ainlay in the Tier I finals. That one blemish may look like a negative in the standings, but in our eyes it’s the mark of a juggernaut program that isn’t afraid to test themselves against the best of the best, and puts their players in an uncomfortable situation where they maybe aren’t the best on the field. Which is important for a program like Holy Trinity Academy, who outside of their game against Raymond ran a gauntlet through the rest of their opponents scoring 40+ points in all 10 of their victories, and put up 50+ in half of them. When you tally up all 11 games, they ended up outscoring their competition 540-144 with their closest margin of victory being 32 points against Catholic Central. They’ve now made the Tier II finals five times in the last six seasons, and are the proud owners of three provincial banners.Ā There’s only one word to describe the Knights this year – dominant.

  • Nobody ever wants to come second, but we are sure the Windsor Wolves players and staff are still too busy celebrating their 17-14 comeback victory over Vernon in the AA Varsity Finals to worry about where they ended up in the rankings. It looked like a forgone conclusion at halftime with the Wolves staring down the barrel of another defeat at the hands of the defending champions. The Wolves only loss prior to the finals was in their season opener when they fell 21-0 to Vernon, which set the stage for a picture perfect Hollywood ending where they once again found themselves down 14-0 at halftime in the championship game. Mentally, they could’ve crumbled realizing they’ve played six quarters against the Panthers and failed to put a single point up on the board, but this pack of Wolves was built different. Instead of accepting their fate, they fought back in the second half with 17 unanswered points to claim their first provincial title since 2017, and their eighth in the program’s illustrious history. It was the perfect way to cap off a magical season across Canada that saw so many twists, turns and upsets that made the CFC50 and CFC25 rankings chaos on a weekly basis – but we wouldn’t want to have it any other way.
