- The drought is finally over. It’s been 14 years since anyone has been able to write this sentence – Saskatoon is home to the best high school football program in Saskatchewan after St. Joseph left zero doubts in their 52-14 victory over Campbell in the 6A Provincial finals. At some point, you start to believe it’ll never happen again, but something in the water tasted a little bit different this time around with so many unexpected results throughout the season at the 6A and 5A levels. It’s just the second 6A title for the Guardians program, who last raised a provincial banner to the rafters in 2003, and this one must taste oh so sweet upsetting their arch-rivals Holy Cross in the Saskatoon city finals along the way after dropping two games to their ultimate foes during the regular season. This marks the dawn of a new era in Saskatchewan high school football – now let’s see how long Saskatoon can hold onto the trophy.
CFC100 CLASS 2026 RANKINGS
- Back-to-back? That’s going to look slick on their championship jackets after Dakota claimed their second straight ANAVETS Bowl with a hard-fought 11-3 victory over Oak Park. It felt like this matchup was the inevitable outcome early on in the year with Dakota and Oak Park clearly a cut above the rest in Manitoba, and they didn’t disappoint with both teams worthy of their recognition as one of the best programs in Canada in 2024. On a different day, the city might’ve been painted blue, but now everyone will have to wait another year to bring an end to the Lancers 15 game unbeaten streak as they look to become the first program to win three straight ANAVETS Bowls since 2011-2013 when St. Paul’s ruled the province. It’ll be hard to replicate the type of success this group achieved at Dakota this season after outscoring their opponents 454-13 in ten games; which begs the question where does this Lancers team rank among the greatest-of-all-time in Manitoba high school history? We think they have a very strong argument, but we will let everyone else decide that debate.
- Another fantastic high school season in the Maritimes comes to a close with Tantramar finally reclaiming their spot atop the mountain in New Brunswick after defeating Riverview in the provincial finals. From 2015-2019, it felt like a foregone conclusion that the Titans would be the only team left standing at the end of the year, but the landscape changed coming out of the pandemic with Tantramar struggling to maintain their dynastic aspirations. In their place, Riverview emerged as the program to beat taking home the grand prize the last two seasons, and have now appeared in five of the last six provincial finals including three against Tantramar. Throw in the 2021 champions Saint John, and runner-ups Kennebecasis Valley and Fredericton in recent years, and the province is in a great spot after receiving a competitive injection that was needed to keep things fresh. With that said, the Titans are once again the team to beat, and would love nothing more than to write another chapter of Tantramar dominance in the history books.
CFC STAR RANKINGS DATABASE
- Across the border, we’ve also got a new champion in Nova Scotia with Bay View taking down Charles P. Allen 22-17 to claim their first provincial title since changing their school’s name, and just the second in school history with their only other triumph coming in 2013 when they were still known as the Sir John A. MacDonald Flames. They’ve had five bites at the apple since that fateful day, and finally busted down the door after a long season that should’ve seen them ranked a lot sooner – guilty as charged. Much like New Brunswick, it’s great to see parity across the board after Citadel won 11 of 12 titles between 2008-2019. Since the pandemic, Bay View is the third program to claim provincial supremacy, and should leave hope for Charles P. Allen that their day in the sun will come if they just keep pounding at the door after falling to 0-5 in the finals since 2013.
- Now it’s time to catch up with the chaos in Ontario, and we have to begin in the Halton Public league where we witnessed another upset for the ages with Georgetown stunning Nelson in the league finals 28-11 to punch their ticket to the GHAC playdowns. In hindsight, Georgetown have been absolutely cooking since their week two loss to Craig Kielburger, which left them at 0-2 after falling to Nelson 42-12 in the season opener. It’s been all business since that day with the 87’s outscoring their opponents 195-28 including revenge victories over Craig Kielburger and Nelson when it mattered most, and now they have the chance to shock the country once again with a GHAC semifinals showdown against top ten ranked Corpus Christi, who earned their spot after defeating Assumption 24-10 in the Halton Catholic finals. Assumption march on with the Halton Catholic league earning two seeds in the GHAC playdowns, but they are going to be in deep going up against Bishop Tonnos, who won their third straight Hamilton Catholic title after defeating St. Thomas More 33-26 in the league finals.

- We continue our Ontario coverage with a quick scan of the rest of the action across the province as we race toward the OFSAA Bowl Series. Korah are one step closer to the big dance after handily defeating Lo-Ellen out of Sudbury 41-18 in the NOSSA semifinals, and now just Algonquin out of North Bay stand in their way.
- Notre Dame (Welland) are off to the SOSSA semifinals after squeaking by St. Francis 20-18 in the Niagara Catholic League finals. Waiting for them on the other side will be their long time regional rivals A.N. Myer, who will be hungry to correct their wrongs from a shocking result in the Niagara Public league finals where they were upset by Sir Winston Churchill. Westmount will be Churchill’s opponent in the other SOSSA semifinal after shutting down Westdale 14-0 to claim another Hamilton Public title.
- Centennial (Guelph) advanced to the CWOSSA semifinals after breezing past St. Mary’s 38-0, and will now prepare to battle the District 4 champions Resurrection. On the other side of the bracket, Jacob Hespeler and Brantford CI will square off with a spot in the CWOSSA finals on the line after winning their respective league titles.
- Northern are the kings of the 416 after taking down Brebeuf 16-4 in the second annual Toronto Bowl. Northern will be taking on Holy Cross (Peterborough) in the OFSAA Eastern Bowl, while Brebeuf advance to take on the second seed out of the host region SWOSSAA in the OFSAA Independent Bowl.
- Lastly we look forward to championship bouts in London between Sir Frederick Banting and Catholic Central, in Kingston between Frontenac and Holy Cross, and in Windsor between Holy Names and W.F. Herman.
- We move onto Quebec where the Bol d’Or is finally set after an unpredictable season with so many twists and turns. Saint-Jean-Eudes will be looking to go back-to-back after dismantling Charles-Lemoyne 42-14 in the semifinals, but it’s going to be a lot easier said than done with Cure-Antoine-Labelle hoping to claim their first Bol d’Or since 2014 after defeating Saint-Francois 27-20 in the other semifinals. This game is lining up to be a great clash with just one point separating these two programs earlier in the regular season when Cure-Antoine-Labelle walked away with a 22-21 victory.

- It’s time to check-in with Alberta where the Tier I semifinals hopefully provide a little more drama than the quarterfinals. The one standout result was Lethbridge CI upsetting St. Francis, but we aren’t sure it can be considered much of an upset when the final score reads 39-27. This means the Rams now get another chance to knockoff their long-time rivals Raymond, but they’ll need to dig deep to find the key to success after having no answers in their 38-7 loss to the Comets just two weeks ago. On the other side we will have a rematch from last year’s semifinal with a showdown between the reigning provincial champions Ernest Manning and top seed Harry Ainlay. Although Ernest Manning haven’t been as dominant this year with three losses on their resume, the Titans cannot afford to overlook the Griffins after falling 28-10 at this stage a year ago.
- We finally wrap-up our weekly coverage with the BC wild card round, where everything went according to plan for the top ranked teams. Now we get down to some serious business in the quarterfinals with Lord Tweedsmuir taking on G.W. Graham, South Delta battling Rutland, W.J. Mouat squaring off against New Westminster, and the reigning champions Vancouver College lining up against Kelowna. There’s no where left to hide with only the best remaining, and we can’t wait to see all the madness unfold.
